Microsoft To Stop Charging For Game Patches

According to Eurogamer, Microsoft has stop charging developers who want to update their games on Xbox 360 and XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade). This has been a big issue among the indie crowd as small developers could not update their game because it would cost them money they did not have. Most notable is Phil Fish, the creator of Fez, who could not fix a game breaking glitch because he could not afford a second patch. The patches were rumored to cost tens of thousands of dollars. It looks like Microsoft wants the indie crowd back. The only way I see them doing that is allowing developer to self-publish. Indie developers have been on the rise since this generation’s consoles have debuted and less barriers means more great games for gamers.
