Nintendo Announces ….. The 2DS?

By far the strangest variations of the 3DS yet, Nintendo announces the 2DS. A cheaper alternative to the 3DS and 3DS XL, the 2DS seems to be for those who do not quite want the 3D feature of the 3DS. The idea of the system makes sense, however abandoning the clam-shell design and the high placement of the buttons looks to be uncomfortable. Speaking with IGN, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime states,

We’re always thinking about what we can do that’s new, unique, different, and brings more people into this category that we love

And so with the Nintendo 3DS, we were clear to parents that, ‘hey, we recommend that your children be seven and older to utilize this device.’ So clearly that creates an opportunity for five-year-olds, six-year-olds, that first-time handheld gaming consumer.

The 2DS will come with all the same features as the 3DS (minus the 3D, of course), which include playing 3DS and DS games and Wifi. The only real changes are additional buttons for turning off Wifi and putting the system to sleep. The 2DS will retail for $129.99 and release on October 12th.
